The forest is a home to the few remaining red colobus monkey in the world which are the most famous inhabitants of the forest. They roam freely through the reserve and they can be viewed at close quarter. But keep your eyes open and you may lucky enough to see Sunnis (small deer), chameleon or even leopard!! Later after the monkey visit, you will have walk on a mangrove board walk to visit different types of mangroves which are available on the Island. Kizimkazi is a traditional fishing and farming village. It has a long history dating in the 12 century. It is the first place visited by the Persian who built a mosque in 1170. In the mosque are inscription written in KOFIC. The exceptional long graves here are still a misery. A wall whose remains are visible even today formerly surrounded the village. Most residents of this village are fishermen but are also small farmers. Typical activities include food gathering, artisanship and businesses. You need JavaScript enabled to view it PRISON ISLAND Prison Island or Changuu Island is in the middle island of the islands visible from Stone Town. The island has become a small tourist resort, where you can relax, walk around to see the Giannt Aldabra Tortoises or beautiful peacocks, swim or snorkel around the coral reefs. The island is a former quarantine hospital in the last century, it has frangipani lined paths around the island where former patents took their evening walks. In 1883, a jail was built on the island, (thus its name “Prison Island”) but never used. Sultan Said brought giant tortoises here from the Seychelles around 1820. There is white sandy beach to relax on and it is also possible to snorkel around the island, our boatman will drop you where beautiful coral are shining with small colorful colors. There is restaurant housed in the old hospital for fresh cold drinks.
